today i would like to focus my thoughts on a much more serious matter....

i frequent subway often. in fact i would say probably two or sometimes even three times a week. and it most cases, it's the same 9th east subway across from the creamery on 9th. i always get the same thing: 6" turkey on wheat with provolone. tomatoes A LITTLE BIT of lettuce, salt, pepper, and a squirt of ranch. what i can't seem to understand is that every time i ask for a little bit, i get a heaping amount, and have to say it's too much. and! when i come back to my office to eat it, i still have to take off about half that still remains. i know it is a filler and all, but when I ask for a little bit, and i come in so often to the same people shouldn't they know by now?

in the words of eric (who probably got it from a commercial or something) "it's okay, i had subway."

my boss is ordering this as soon as it comes out. i am quite excited to see the new features. i've been spending the last few weeks taking a crash course in final cut pro because the kid who usually edits our videos together said no. so now i am the audio AND video guy. yay! except i have no idea what the heck i'm doing in final cut usually. I'm getting better, however. It's been fun to see this job morph into what it is today.

On another note. I finished my book of mormon final this morning. It went really well. I'm guessing high b+. And I'm also glad the class is over. The whole wanting to read the book of mormon kind of goes away when it's required reading and you're getting a grade for how well you understand Christ's visit to America and all his teachings...needless to say i can go back to it being pleasant reading instead of required.

a very long, fun weekend

so besides the fact that finals started last friday, i took the opportunity to go to logan and see my friend, kate, who is stage managing Anything Goes. Needless to say my thoughts about the show haven't changed from when I did it in high school. The Cole Porter music is fun and all, but when you write a musical to form around a bunch of random songs to basically show off someone's music ability you're bound to run into crap when it comes to a story or plot. And that was definitely the case. The leads did a GREAT job, but either the director didn't do anything, or the other actors were really confused about what was going on or that they were even on a boat! I had a good time though, nevertheless, and it was a HUGE example as to why I'm at byu and no longer at usu.

Other things I learned from the weekend:

1. 95.3 and 99.9 are both great channels to use anywhere in utah for my ipod/radio broadcaster thing. I've been really frustrated because i haven't had a lot of luck but i was shown those two channels and they both work great!

2. If you plan on seeing Anything Goes anywhere, plan on seeing a movie afterwards. Madison and I saw the midnight showing of Fracture to get the play out of our head. I really enjoyed the movie; different than what I expected, but still a great flick. I stayed awake the whole time!

3. My honda accord gets great great gas mileage, and can carry coffee tables really well.

4. The hot salsa from Cafe Sabor can only be eaten when you have water close to you or some other kind of beverage.

5. No-doz plus mountain dew is a great combination if you are looking to stay awake. And add a pack of skittles to the mix to top it off.

6. Rooms with glow in the dark splattered on the walls and ceilings is a really cool thing to do. You don't notice the paint, until you turn off the lights.

7. When you let your friends help you dye your hair, make sure they don't put big obvious "Y's" in the back of your head. If only it was blue....

8. The History Boys is a movie with brit humor not meant for consumption at 2am. Haven, on the other hand, is a great film, but again, the 3am factor might cause you to have to rewind a few scenes if you fall asleep.

9. When pursuing a girl in another town, at another school, it probably won't work out, but something else might find it's way to you.

10. Old grist mill bread rocks.

11. If you're lucky (like courtney who drove back home to logan this weekend) you will get flashed by nasty white trash ladies on the interstate causing you to miss your exit and drive to tremonton. I guess that should read: "Beware of nasty white trash girls driving on the interstate near brigham city.

I think that list exhausts my weekend. Or atleast the things I can make public on my blog. Just imagine me on no-doz with mountain dew, the rest is history.

reply to my older brother

First off: I must reply to my brother's call about favorite artist and songs. I thought long and hard about who i would say, and pretty much without a doubt my answer is John Mayer. Mayer's music is loved by all generations. My mom likes him, my older brother likes him, I like him, my little brother likes him, and even my little sister can be caught every once and a while singing a mayer tune. Debuting with what I would call his "pop" album Room for Squares gave us hits such as "No Such Thing" "My Stupid Mouth" and "Why Georgia" and Mayer very quickly became one of my favorite music artists. After the release of his second album Heavier Things so came "Clarity" and "Bigger than My Body" (and the overly played on the radio) "Daughters." Then he did something awesome. He decided to team up with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan to create the John Mayer Trio where I first heard one of my all time favorites: "Vultures." As sad as I was to not get a chance to hear them live like my brother, Jon, Try! is an album frequented on my iPod. With newest album Continuum, I feel like Mayer has outdone himself. He included my favorite "Vultures" on the album with the amazing song "Stop the Train."

I think what keeps me going back to Mayer is his incredible ability to write catchy poetry-like lyrics to an amazing melody:

"played a quick game of chess with the salt and pepper shakers."
"had a talk with my old man, said help me understand; he said turn sixty-eight, you'll renogotiate.
"some of us--we're hardly ever here, the rest of us were born to disappear. how do i stop myself from being just a number?"
"i make the most of all the sadness, you be a bitch because you can. you try to hit me just to hurt me"

the list could go on... point to make: mayer is brilliant. he may be dating an idiot, but his ability as a musician to have such a broad spectrum of fans ranging from many different generations is proof of true talent that will be around for decades to come.

new goals in mind:

So I know i talk about it a lot...but I've been feeling really healthy and in shape these past few weeks. I'm back down to a good steady weight for my height and age and my back problems are minimal now, and the ring around my belly is depleting. In my mind I have reached my goal I set last january (jan 2006) to get into shape. I don't know what defines being "in shape," but i feel that i'm fairly close.

With that said, my new goal is to compete in a triathalon. Brandon, i know you've done this so you'll have to give me some training advice. I'm going to start looking around for some different triathalons going on in the utah area and see if any are around the send of august. Somewhere in the 3-4 month away time period. I need to build my endurance up MUCH more, but while running today, I realized that it's getting easier and easier to go longer and longer. A good sign, I believe. I do need to start swimming more, and I need to start going to spinning night more as well. But now that school is done to it's last week before summer, i think I will have ample time to start training.

So I don't want to hear any "why the heck do you want to do that?" or "that's stupid, you'll never be able to do it." Instead I am only accepting answers such as "that's great. good luck" or "awesome" or even "you have a nice face." nothing negative. they aren't accepted.

good night!

my humps

okay.... alanis has been one of my favorite lady artists for a long time, and this is just brilliant. it's her rendition of the black eyed peas' "my humps"

Here is the orignal so you have something to compare. just watch enough of this to see the humor in alanis' version. don't watch the whole thing or you'll sing it all day
